Meet: Harald, keep it simple and make a difference

What’s it like to become a Scrum Master and work at MEQIFY? In our ’Meet’ series, we learn more about working with MEQIFY by meeting the people that are tirelessly supporting our customers to improve themselves and are brimming with experience to share.

Harald is one of our newest colleagues in Meqify, joining in late 2022 just in time for a team trip to Copenhagen. His current assignment is with Tetra Pak as a Scrum Master.

When did you come across agile for the first time?

About 20 years ago, I was part of a small development team in France. We had a project to create a digital content management system for cultural institutions to archive and share their work. We got funding from the French Ministry of Culture, but we had to deliver fast. There was a lot of competition and we realized that traditional project management was not suitable. So, we experimented with agile and found out that Scrum was the best fit for us.

What’s your suggestion for someone who wants to become a Scrum Master or Agile Coach?

If you are interested in becoming a Scrum Master or Agile Coach, you should enjoy continuous learning and accept that it is a journey. You will need to develop a range of skills and competencies, such as facilitation, communication, leadership, mentoring, and problem-solving. But above all, you will need to have a passion for people and a growth mindset: see potential where others see problems, inject something new when teams think in circles, making it concrete at the right time.

Your capacity to build trust is key and at the same time you will need to keep a distance. You do not want to get absorbed by the action and lose oversight. Being able to use coaching tools and techniques helps me greatly in my work.

So what are some of your favourite agile and Scrum concepts?

The core principles of Scrum resonate well with how I approached my work: commitment, courage, focus, openness, and respect. When those values become your guiding stars, will the team collaborate, communicate, and create value for the user and the organization.

How did you get a job with MEQIFY and what do you bring to the team?

Our first meeting was at the Agile Exchange Lund meetup. The event was a fantastic opportunity to meet other professionals with a shared mindset. One thing led to another, and I was invited to join MEQIFY, that was in 2022. What I appreciate the most is working as part of a human sized enterprise, with regular opportunities to exchange and offering our shared knowledge to our clients.
