Meet: Harri, exchanging knowledge and finding purpose

What’s it like to have a career with MEQIFY? In our ‘Meet’ series, we learn more about working with MEQIFY by meeting the people that are tirelessly supporting our customers to improve themselves and are brimming with experience to share.

Meet Harri; keen to engage with others and spread great ways of working, Harri started his career with MEQIFY in 2022 and is currently supporting Volvo as a Scrum Master.

What’s your favourite Agile-related book?

The FIVE DYSFUNCTIONS of a TEAM by Patrick Lencioni. “I like that the book is written as a story, it makes it fun to read”. Not only is the content informative, but Harri also recognised different personality types and found the book highlights the importance of conflict resolution in team dynamics. While Harri finds conflict resolution a tricky task this book helped him see it is a skill that can be honed with practice. Harri would highly recommend it to anyone looking to enhance their knowledge of Agile methodologies. You can find out about MEQIFY’s other book recommendations here.

What’s your suggestion for someone who wants to become a Scrum Master or Agile Coach?

When also asked which of the Scrum Values he would get as a tatoo, Harri said “all of them!” but we wouldn’t necessarily recommend that as a prerequisite for someone wanting to get into Scrum and Agile. Harri thinks the best place to start is by gaining knowledge to understand the principles and techniques. “Read through the Scrum guide and Agile Manifesto” he says, and there’s also so much information on youtube to explore, and reading one of the manifesto founders Jeff Sutherland’s book ‘Scrum’ also sets you on the right track.

When did you come across agile for the first time, and what’s your favourite topic in the field?

Harri was was working at Nokia in 2009 as the organisation shifted to delivering with Scrum. “I had already started to explore working in this way so it felt great” he became a Scrum Master there. For Harri, supporting team members to perform is really important to him and his favourite topic to explore. “Working on the right things and finding purpose in what you do” are essential elements of this for him.

That’s also why the Sprint Retrospective is Harri’s favourite event: “It’s fun to do, you can always finish with this Scrum event regardless how you started.”

How did you get to work with MEQIFY and what do you bring to the team?

“I found Meqify on LinkedIn, explored the website and got in touch!” for Harri, working at MEQIFY means he can continue exploring different areas and sees value in being “midfield, able to be everywhere and a generalist over a specialist”. At the moment Harri is supporting our internal goal to build and exchange knowledge with other companies, as well as supporting recruitment in Meqify.

You can hear more about Harri’s experiences in the Scrum Master Toolbox podcast!
